Operations Administrator
The Fairfield County Chorale, Inc. is currently seeking applicants for the part-time position of FCC Operations Administrator.
Who are we?
For those who may not be familiar with us, the FCC is a volunteer 70+ member non-professional chorus, now in its 60th year of presenting a broad range of choral music -- from Vivaldi and Mozart, to Adolphus Hailstork and Thomas Cabaniss -- for the benefit of our diverse community. Led by our esteemed Music Director David Rosenmeyer, we traditionally perform three concerts a year -- December, March and May -- in the Norwalk City Concert Hall, and are currently rehearsing for our next performance on March 18: the stirring and beautiful Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez. We take particular pride in the fact that we continued to rehearse and perform throughout the pandemic, reflecting our mission to bring choral music to Fairfield County.
What is the position of FCC Operations Administrator?
The Operations Administrator will administratively support and assist our Music Director, Board of Directors and our volunteer committees and members in all aspects of our operations.
Responsibilities will include:
Facilitating the implementation of the Music Director's plans and vision for the Chorale;
Concert preparations; coordination with City of Norwalk in connection with contracts, permits and Covid limitations and restrictions; arrangements for professional soloists and musicians; participation and coordination with FCC volunteers on concert day and in dress rehearsals scheduling and management. Some of these obligations, and specifically those relating to rehearsals and activities during the week prior to and on the day of, during, and immediately following the concert, will require the OA's physical presence at Norwalk City Hall or any alternate concert venue.
Administrative support as needed and requested by FCC committee chairs, working to ensure necessary and timely communications and coordinated alignment of FCC objectives.
Maintaining accurate and current files and records relating to FCC operations and the OA's activities in FCC's “Chorus Connection" system so that they are readily available to leadership; prepare, post and circulate monthly reports in advance of board meetings; attend board and committee meetings if requested; attend the FCC annual meeting.
The Operations Administrator shall be a part-time employee of FCC, reporting to the President as directed by the Board of Directors. The bulk of the OA's responsibilities will be performed during our concert season, that is, from September through May, with some additional time commitments during the week of concert performances. We anticipate minimal summer activity required beyond oversight of and responsiveness to FCC mail and messages, and assisting the Music Director as needed in planning for the upcoming concert season. Since FCC does not currently maintain a physical office, much of the OA's work, including member meetings, may be conducted remotely, except where the OA is needed to be physically present at the venue site or in such other situations where, in the opinion of the Board, the OA's presence is required. As a part-time administrator, the OA may engage in outside employment, provided, however, that there be no conflicts with obligations and responsibilities, particularly where the OA's physical presence will be required at the venue site, as noted above.
Given the variability of skillsets among volunteer leaders, the functions required of the FCC Operations Administrator may vary in and during any given year with respect to the volunteers as well as the needs of the Music Director. Responsibilities of the Operations Administrator shall be reviewed and evaluated periodically so those responsibilities are clearly established for all parties and expectations of respective roles are managed appropriately, recognizing that the OA is a part-time employee.
Is there a fit? Are you the right candidate?
Applicants for the role of FCC Operations Administrator should possess strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and administrative skills, the ability to professionally, transparently, efficiently and collegially interact and collaborate to achieve our goals. The candidate should also have an appreciation of choral music and a commitment to community arts programs in our diverse community. If not a member of the Chorale, we would expect the OA to attend some rehearsals, in whole or in part, to get to know our members, and experience first-hand our passion for choral music and the collegiality of our Music Director and members.
In order to fulfill the above responsibilities, the successful candidate must have a working and updated computer and valid driver’s license and access to, or ownership of, a vehicle whenever needed.
