Chorus America is partnering with Washington Performing Arts (WPA) to present a conducting workshop on April 1, 2017, as part of SHIFT, a weeklong festival highlighting North American orchestras.
Six conducting fellows will have a unique opportunity to learn from Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) music director Robert Spano and director of choruses Norman Mackenzie. The focus will be on conducting excerpts from the Brahms Requiem, with piano accompaniment and a workshop chorus made up of both ASO singers and singers from DC-area choruses. The chosen fellows will receive hands-on podium time and coaching with Spano and Mackenzie.
Emerging or mid-career conductors living and working in Washington DC area and surrounding states are encouraged to apply. Participation in the workshop is free for selected fellows. Applications for this program are now closed.
The three-hour workshop will take place at DC's Wonder Bread Factory, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm.
Fellows will be asked to prepare all of the following movements from the Brahms Requiem.
The workshop will use the Dover Edition, full score.
This workshop is part of SHIFT: A Festival of American Orchestras, co-presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Washington Performing Arts. Click here for festival details. (Additional performances and residency events will be announced in the coming weeks.)
